Sermon: Fear not Believe only (Luke 8:40-56)

40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people [gladly] received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind [him], and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press [thee], and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
49 While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s [house], saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
50 But when Jesus heard [it], he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
56 And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

40 예수님께서 돌아오실 때에 사람들이 반갑게 그분을 받아들이니 이는 그들이 다 그분을 기다렸기 때문이더라.
41 ¶ 보라, 야이로라 하는 사람이 나아왔는데 그는 회당의 치리자더라. 그가 예수님의 발 앞에 엎드리고 그분께 간청하여 그분께서 자기 집에 들어오실 것을 구하니
42 이는 그에게 열두 살쯤 된 외동딸이 있었는데 그 딸이 누운 채 죽어갔기 때문이더라. 그러나 그분께서 가실 때에 사람들이 그분께 몰려들더라.
43 ¶ 열두 해 동안 혈루증이 있어 의사들에게 자기의 모든 살림을 허비하였으되 아무에게서도 고침을 받지 못한 여자가
44 그분의 뒤로 와서 그분의 옷자락에 손을 대니 즉시 그녀에게서 피 나오는 것이 멎으니라.
45 예수님께서 이르시되, 누가 내게 손을 대었느냐? 하시니 모두가 부인할 때에 베드로와 또 그와 함께 있던 자들이 이르되, 선생님이여, 무리가 선생님께 몰려들어 선생님을 밀고 있는데, 누가 내게 손을 대었느냐, 하고 말씀하시나이까? 하매
46 예수님께서 이르시되, 누가 내게 손을 대었도다. 내게서 효능이 나간 줄을 내가 아노라, 하시니
47 여자가 자신을 숨기지 못한 줄 알고 떨며 나아와 그분 앞에 엎드려 자기가 그분께 손을 댄 까닭과 자기가 즉시 나은 것을 모든 사람 앞에서 그분께 밝히 알리거늘
48 그분께서 그녀에게 이르시되, 딸아, 안심하라. 네 믿음이 너를 온전하게 하였으니 평안히 가라, 하시니라.
49 ¶ 그분께서 아직 말씀하실 때에 회당의 치리자의 집에서 사람이 와서 그에게 이르되, 당신의 딸이 죽었나이다. 선생님을 괴롭게 하지 마소서, 하거늘
50 예수님께서 그것을 들으시고 그에게 응답하여 이르시되, 두려워하지 말고 믿기만 하라. 그리하면 네 딸이 온전하게 되리라, 하시고
51 집에 들어가사 베드로와 야고보와 요한과 소녀의 아버지와 어머니 외에는 아무도 들어오는 것을 허락하지 아니하시니라.
52 모든 사람이 슬피 울며 소녀로 인하여 가슴 아파하였으나 그분께서 이르시되, 울지 말라. 그 소녀는 죽지 않았고 잔다, 하시니
53 그들이 소녀가 죽은 것을 알므로 그분을 비웃더라.
54 그분께서 그들을 다 내보내시고 소녀의 손을 잡고 불러 이르시되, 소녀야 일어나라, 하시니
55 소녀의 영이 돌아와 소녀가 즉시 일어나거늘 그분께서 그녀에게 먹을 것을 주라고 명령하시니라.
56 소녀의 부모는 놀랐으나 그분께서 그들에게 명하사 그들이 그 이루어진 일을 아무에게도 말하지 못하게 하시니라.
