Key Theme: Believers are to be stewards of the mysteries of God.
Good morning everyone. We are still in the lesson titled “The Mysteries of God.”
So far, we have learned two mysteries.
First, we learned that God was manifest in the flesh [1 Timothy 3:16].
The Lord Himself came down here on the earth at His first coming with the virgin birth conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.
He came to die to pay for the penalty of sin for you and me!
Last week, we learned the second mystery.
If you are saved, you have Christ in you, the hope of glory [Colossians 1:26-27].
We studied that saved believer will have two natures including the old nature and the spiritual nature.
These two natures will fight against one another until the day you die or when the Rapture of the Church takes place.
As believers, the Lord expects us to be stewards of His mysteries that He has revealed to us in the Bible.
Before we begin the class, let us go to [1 Corinthians 4:1-2] and read it all together.
1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
All right. Today we will study together concerning the next mystery.
Christ and the Church
Please let us all go to [Ephesians 5: 25-32].
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
From verse 25, we can see a picture of a relationship.
What is it?
It is a husband and a wife.
It is Christ and the church.
Now the word “husband” and “wife” are obvious.
We need to understand what the “church” is.
The church is not a building.
The church is a local, visible, organized and constituted assembly of saved believers.
Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
From verse 26, God would like His church to set apart from the world.
That is why He has preserved His word in the Bible so that the church can read, study and have the pastors and preachers taught them with sound doctrines.
If you are saved, you now have a spiritual nature. This nature can grow. One of the ways that it can grow is to be fed by the word of God.
Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Verse 27 tells us that God would like the church to be without spot and be perfectly reserved only for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Verse 28 commands the husband to love his wife and be her protector.
The church here is pictured as a man’s wife.
Ephesians 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
We can see that the Lord Jesus Christ does care and love His church.
Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Verse 30 shows us that saved believers are now joined together and are part of Christ’s body.
Ephesians 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
The Bible tells us that a husband and a wife are now joined together as one flesh.
Saved believers are the body of Christ.
It does not matter what your nationality is.
Korean, Thai, American, etc.
If you are saved, you are part of the body of Christ.
The most crucial question is how can a person be part of the body of Christ?
The simple answer is to get saved.
Let us go to [1 Corinthians 15: 1-4].
1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
This is the gospel that gets people saved in our day and age.
Admit that you are a sinner.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ that He
… died for our sins according to the scriptures.
… was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
Confess (ask) the Lord Jesus Christ to save your soul.
When you are saved, you are part of the body of Christ.
Also, I invite all of us to please read [Ephesians 2:5-6].
Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Again, we can see that this day and age, we are saved by grace.
Before salvation, you are dead spiritually.
Still, you will die physically one day.
At the moment of your salvation, you have a new birth. A spiritual birth.
It is a spiritual action, but you cannot see it with human eyesight.
You can see it by faith based on what the Bible says.
[Ephesians 2:6] is very interesting.
Please read as the way it is written.
.… And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Spiritually, saved believers are now already up there in heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ.
How can I be there in heaven and then down here still teaching the Sunday School?
I cannot explain this well enough.
It is a mystery.
Next please turn to [Hebrews 4:16].
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Spiritually, saved believers are in the throne room of the Lord Almighty.
This should be a great encouragement if you are saved.
You can approach the Lord through prayer at any time!
Ladies and gentlemen. If you are saved today, you are already in the body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
[Ephesians 5:30] says
…For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
His body is called the church.
Remember that just like a husband who loves for his wife, the same goes with Christ and the church.
We are the church, and He loves us that
He died on the cross and shed His blood.
He was buried.
He rose again the third day.
Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
