Key Theme: Once saved, always saved.
Good morning everyone. Welcome to Sunday School.
Today we will talk about the doctrine of eternal security.
Some of you might have heard the old preacher said, “once saved, always saved.”
We will spend time this morning and look at what the Bible said.
These days people feel insecure.
The government fails. The economy collapses.
Is there anything else that we can trust?
Surely, there is.
The Word of God is what we can always trust.
It gives us the truth. It comforts us.
OK. Let us read all together from [1 John 5:13].
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Here at IIBC, every week you will hear preachers asked the question “are you saved”?
This does not mean we would like to be nosy about your life.
In fact, we asked this question with our love and care for you.
Believe it or not, there are many people out there that think they can go to heaven when they die.
When we asked them the reason, why?
Some will say “I always go to church.”
Some will say “I got baptized.”
Some will say “my mom and dad are Christians.”
Obviously, we know that these cannot save anyone from the burning hell!
Obviously, those people do not know that going to church, getting baptized, reading the Bible or being raised in Christian home cannot save them from hell!
Salvation begins with hearing the pure Word of God.
People need to admit that they are sinners.
God cannot allow sin to enter heaven. He then must judge sin with a burning hell.
People need to know that none of the good works can save them.
The battle for souls is real these days. Our world is under the influence of Satan. The Bible says in
2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Satan will use tactics and schemes to fight against the true gospel. So, we need to continue to pray for lost souls.
Unless people realize that they are a sinner and are heading to eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire, they will not see the need for a personal Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
If people, who we are trying to witness, still have an argument about this, then it is not a good time to lead them with a sinner prayer.
People need to turn to Christ and trust in His finished work at the cross and that He was buried and rose again on the third day.
Then they need to ask God by faith to save and forgive them.
This is the simple plan of salvation for mankind in this day and age.
These days, many Christians base their assurance of salvation upon their personal feelings.
This is dangerous. Why?
The problem with this is that feelings change.
One day you may feel saved; the next day, when bad things happen, you may not feel saved.
As believers, we have something more than feelings to go by.
It is the unchanging Word of God.
Now, God’s word is always true.
I invite you to please read [Titus 1:2].
Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
We have a hope of eternal life. God has told us so.
And He cannot lie about this.
If you are saved today, I would like to show three verses to comfort you that when you are saved, you are always saved.
Simply say, saved believers cannot lose salvation.
It is promised by God the Father.
John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
From this Scripture, you can see that God the Father has the power to keep believers saved.
Salvation belongs to Him. He freely gives it to us.
When you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior, you have been credited the perfect righteousness of Christ to you.
Saved believers, according to this Scripture, are kept safe under a mighty and protective hand of God.
Many saved believers have been hanging out with the wrong people. Something might have happened to them. They ended up joining the world.
They no longer came to church. They no longer wanted anything to do with Christians.
They said that was it. They may later choose to deny God.
They may end up paying the price for the sin they have committed in the flesh.
However, God will not deny the first day when that believer has come to Him and asked Him to save his soul.
It is confirmed by God the Son.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Now we can see this Scripture from God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is very short and straightforward.
He said
… him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out…
Ladies and gentlemen. God, Himself is telling us that if you have already come to the Lord Jesus Christ, He will not cast you out.
Remember [Titus 1:2] we have just read. God cannot lie.
If He said … I will in no wise cast out…, then He really meant it.
It is sealed by God the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Now let us see what God the Holy Spirit has to say about this.
Here we see several things. Lost sinners need to hear the truth.
They need to hear the simple message of the plan of salvation based on the Word of God.
At the moment of their salvation, God the Holy Spirit sealed the souls of believers.
We cannot see this spiritual action with our human eyesight. However, we can see it and believe it by faith based on what God said in His Word.
When you are saved, you have a new relationship with God.
Let us read [Romans 8:15].
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
God is your Heavenly Father.
In our human family, when a child does wrong, his parents do not cast him out of the family and disown him.
The parents will correct and chasten their son.
He is still always their son and a member of that family.
When saved believers sin, they are not cast out of God’s family, thus losing their salvation.
They will lose the fellowship with God. Not salvation!
Like any loving father, God will chasten the erring believers to restore him to fellowship [Hebrews 12:6].
Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Today, if you are saved, may this lesson be of great encouragement and comfort to you.
We have a Great God!
And He always keeps His Word.
