7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

8 When thou art bidden of any [man] to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Luke 14:7-11

7 ¶ 그분께서 초대받은 자들이 으뜸가는 자리를 택하는 것을 눈여겨보시고 그들에게 비유를 들어 말씀하시되,

8 네가 어떤 사람으로부터 결혼식에 초대를 받거든 가장 높은 자리에 앉지 말라. 너보다 더 존귀한 사람이 그에게 초대를 받은 경우

9 너와 그를 초대한 자가 와서 네게 이르기를, 이 사람에게 자리를 내주라, 하리니 그러면 네가 수치를 당하며 가장 낮은 자리를 잡기 시작할까 염려하노라.

10 오히려 네가 초대를 받거든 가서 가장 낮은 자리에 앉으라. 그러면 너를 초대한 자가 와서 네게 이르기를, 친구여, 더 높은 데로 올라가라, 하리니 그때에 네가 너와 함께 음식 앞에 앉아 있는 자들 앞에서 영예를 얻으리라.

11 누구든지 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라, 하시니라.
