Key Theme: Believers are to seek God’s will for their lives continually.
Good morning everyone. Today we continue our study titled “Know His Will.”
One month ago, we learned from the Scriptures that
- It is the will of God that all be saved [2 Peter 3:9].
- It is the will of God that every Christian be sanctified [1 Thessalonians 4:1-7].
- It is the will of God that you thank Him in everything [1 Thessalonians 5:18].
Let us read our key verse for this lesson in [Romans 12:2] aloud all together.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The Bible tells us that we can “prove” which means to be able to “test” or “examine” what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God.
As believers, God would like all of us to know His perfect will. However, we must follow His way.
[Romans 12:2] gives us instruction of how we can identify the perfect will of God.
We need to be
…transformed.
How?
…by the renewing of your mind.
Then you need to ask the following questions and think.
- Why would God like us to have our mind transformed?
- Is there something with our mind that God would like to change?
- How can our mind be transformed?
These are good questions.
Sometimes when we read the Bible, we go with fast speed just to finish the chapter.
Oftentimes, we do not pause and observe what God’s word really say.
We can know the will of God from His Word in the Bible.
There is no excuse to not knowing the will of God.
The preachers have to point out the church members to the word of God.
At the same time, the church members must take their own responsibilities to read the word of God.
Saved believers always struggle with the battle of the flesh and the spirit. We learned that our flesh hates spiritual things.
We can pray and ask God to help us to grow spiritually.
Nothing is wrong with that. In fact, it is the prayer that is in line with His Word [2 Peter 3:18].
2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Everyone, God would like you to know His will.
Let us go to [Ephesians 5:17].
Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
God wants you to know His will in your daily plans and choices.
However, you must be committed to His desires not your own. This is more of the attitude of your heart.
Let us read [1 Peter 4:2].
1 Peter 4:2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
If you spend time and effort to chase the things of the world, you are not doing the will of God.
Wealth, fame, prosperity, reputation, and recognition.
As believers, we need to stop and take time to examine our lives.
[1 Peter 4:2] tells us to no longer pay attention to the things that the flesh likes.
Transformation starts with the change of the mind!
Sometimes God allows suffering, pain, and tribulation to hit our lives.
Why?
So that your eyes and attention can come back to focus on Him!
God gradually shows us what His will is.
Do what you know already based on His will you have just learned.
Share the gospel, pursue holiness and be thankful in everything.
The rest He will show you when you are ready.
God guides us one step at a time.
Usually, God works at walking speed when He trains His children. However, He can work at a rapid pace.
Next let us read [Colossians 4:12].
Colossians 4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
We learned from the Scripture that we could complete God’s will for our lives.
Really?
Yes.
The very reason that we can is that all saved believers have the Holy Spirit dwells with us.
Believers these days overlook the Holy Spirit.
We have already learned that the Holy Spirit is God.
Now listen carefully.
If you are saved, you have God the Holy Spirit lives in you.
He has sealed you until the day of Redemption [the Rapture of the Church].
For believers, the Holy Spirit plays a big role in our prayer lives.
Let us read [Romans 8:26-27].
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
These Scriptures have been taken out of the context by the charismatic movement. They referred it to the speaking in tongue.
In fact, it is the opposite.
When you do not know the right words to pray, God the Holy Spirit prays with you and pray for you.
These Scriptures are a beautiful promise of God to the saved believers.
Then when you bring your requests to God, trust that He will always do what is best.
God’s will for you is
Good, Acceptable, and Perfect.
And He would like you to know it.
